    Bertha Benz and her two sons, Eugen and Richard, together undertake the first long-distance journey in automotive history. Aboard "Model 3", the series version of the Patent Motor Car, they drive from Mannheim to Pforzheim via Heidelberg, Bruchsal and Durlach – a total distance of about 100 kilometres. After spending five days in Pforzheim the trio returns to Mannheim via Bretten and Bruchsal.
