  • The 2.5-litre fuel injection 250 SL (W 113) is presented at the Geneva Motor Show. This successor to the 230 SL has been delivered to customers since 27 February. A variant is also available, fitted with a rear seat bench rather than the roadster soft-top and soft-top compartment.

  • Mercedes-Benz expands its domestic passenger car range with the addition of a 7/8-seater version of the 200 D (W 110) with lengthened wheelbase. Originally intended for export only, the variant is equipped with two folding seats in front of the rear seat bench for up to three people and is the first long-wheelbase Mercedes-Benz saloon in the intermediate class.

  • All Mercedes-Benz car models are equipped with a new safety steering system as standard. It consists of a steering column which telescopes in a frontal collision and a steering wheel impact absorber which reduces the risk of injury upon impact with the steering wheel.

  • Daimler-Benz presents the prototype of the new O 305 standard regular service bus at the Frankfurt International Motor Show. It was designed taking into account suggestions made by the association of German public transport operators, which comprises 170 member companies. Large-scale production gets underway in late 1968. Other new products in the bus sector include an extended variant of the O 302 touring coach with 13 rows of seats and the O 309 minibus with higher roof. Products debuting in the truck sector are the LP 808, an addition to the light truck series, the medium-duty COE units LP 1513 and LP 1517, and the heavy-duty trucks LP 2223 and LPS 2223, equipped with the new 230 hp / 169 kW four-valve diesel engine OM 355.
