In 1900, Wilhelm Maybach completed the redesign of the first modern automobile, which was to bear the name of his daughter Mercedes at the request of Emil Jellinek. A four-cylinder engine with a displacement of almost six litres and 35 hp brought the first Mercedes almost to 90 km/h (from Rothschild). And numerous victories quickly made the cars from Bad Cannstatt famous: In 1901 Wilhelm Mayer won the Nice-Aix-Salon-Nice race and the Nice-La Turbie hill climb. In 1902 and 1903, the successes on the Turbie were repeated - with average speeds increasing from year to year.
