    A new fuel cell powered vehicle based on the A-Class begins extended testing in California. NECAR 4 Advanced has been specifically built for use in the California Fuel Cell Partnership – a cooperation established in April 1999 on the initiative of vehicle manufacturers, government authorities and energy suppliers. Unlike the predecessor NECAR 4, whose fuel cells are powered by liquid hydrogen, NECAR 4 Advanced operates on pressurised hydrogen. The fuel cell unit, optimised for volume and weight, permits a top speed of 145 km/h with its output of 75 kW.
