DTM/ITC race series: successful season for Mercedes

    At the last race of the International Touring Car Championship (ITC) in Suzuka, Japan, Dario Franchitti wins the first run and Bernd Schneider the second, both driving the AMG-Mercedes C-Class. Bernd Schneider finishes as ITC runner-up. With the discontinuation of these series, Mercedes-Benz concludes its involvement in DTM/ ITC racing as the most successful automotive manufacturer. Between 1986 and 1996, Mercedes-Benz touring cars amassed a total of 86 race victories.
