Hybrid trucks in everyday operation

In Freiburg Baden-Württemberg's transport minister Hermann Schaufler takes delivery of a Mercedes-Benz 1517 hybrid truck. When used in urban areas, the truck will be powered by an almost silent 46 kW / 63 hp electric motor. In rural areas the truck switches to its second drive system, a 125 kW / 170 hp diesel engine with reduced emissions and noise. The parallel arrangement of the two drives also permits combined operation with 171 kW / 233 hp.
