C 111-II: three world records for diesels

    In a 64-hour record run on the test track in Nardò, Italy, the C 111-II D establishes three world records and 16 class records, averaging speeds of over 250 km/h. The car's 140 kW / 190 hp OM 617 LA five-cylinder diesel engine with exhaust gas turbocharger and intercooler is based on the production engine in the 240 D 3.0 and 300 D passenger car models.
In 1975, the 4-rotor Wankel engine was replaced by a 190-hp 5-cylinder diesel engine with turbocharger in a C 111-II. The C 111-II D diesel record-breaking car (without concealed headlights) on the Nardo circuit, 1976.
