    The first Daimler motor car with four-cylinder engine, a Phoenix Phaeton, is delivered to Emil Jellinek. The 2.1-litre Phoenix engine, designed by Wilhelm Maybach, delivers 8 hp / 6 kW at 720 rpm.
Daimler »belt-driven car": Emil Jellinek and his chauffeur Hermann Braun in Baden near Vienna. First Daimler vehicle (6-hp "Double Phaeton" model) from 1898, which Emil Jellinek had purchased in Cannstatt.
This purchase brought the decisive contact to Gottlieb Daimler and thus to Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft with regard to further successful business relations.
