    At the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS), Mercedes-Benz presents the upgraded generation of E-Class saloons and estates (211 series), which makes many innovations like ADAPTIVE BRAKE or the PRE-SAFE anticipatory occupant protection system available in the premium midsize segment for the first time. The new top-of-the-range E 63 AMG is the most powerful E-Class to date, developing 378 kW / 541 hp from its M 156 V8 engine.

Mercedes-Benz E-Class Saloon, 211 series, 2006. The PRE-SAFE® preventive occupant protection system tightened the driver and front passenger seat belts if an accident threatened, moved the electrically adjustable front passenger seat into a safe position and closed the side windows and sunroof as a precaution.
