Mercedes-Benz 230 G, pearl white Popemobile with glass dome superstructure, off-road vehicle, 460 model series G 23, 1980. After the attack on Pope John Paul II, the G-model was fitted with bullet-proof glazing. In 1983 and 1985, the equipment of the G-model was adapted to higher security requirements of the Vatican. Daimler-Benz AG provided various vehicles for the Pope's visit, including this standard 230 G with a platform, on which the Holy Father stands, and a bench seat for the escort. A Plexiglas dome that can be placed on the platform protects against rain.
