  • Description

The Frankfurt International Motor Show marks the debut of both the 212 series E-Class Estate and of the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG (197 series). The gullwing-door super sports car developed by AMG features an all-aluminium body and space frame. Its 420 kW / 571 hp front-mid powerplant, the most powerful variant of the 6.2-litre eight-cylinder M 156 engine, is combined here with a dual clutch transmission and makes possible speeds of up to 317 km/h. Presented here as a concept, the Vision S 500 Plug-In HYBRID offers the possibility of fuel consumption of just 3.2 litres per 100 km. Celebrating its world premiere at the show is the B-Class F-CELL, the first fuel cell passenger car to be manufactured under series-production conditions. It features an locally emission-free drive unit, and the figures convert to an equivalent NEDC fuel consumption of 3.3 litres of diesel per 100 km. smart presents the special "edition highstyle" model and the new 'smart BRABUS tailor made' individualisation programme. With this new service the brand offers a wide range of special equipment options, in addition to the usual variants, so that smart customers can fulfil even the wildest of dreams.

Mercedes-Benz B-Class F-CELL, Sports Tourer, model series 245. A fuel cell converts hydrogen into electricity in a reaction with oxygen. The electricity is passed on to an electric motor on the front axle. The purely electrically powered vehicle emits only water vapour while driving. Its consumption according to the NEDC (New European Driving Cycle) is the equivalent of 3.3 litres of fuel (diesel equivalent), and its range is around 400 kilometres. The liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery as the energy source has a storage capacity of 1.4 kWh. Production started at the end of 2009 with a small series, and the first of around 200 vehicles were delivered to customers in Europe and the USA at the beginning of 2010.
