  • Gottlieb Daimler purchases a 3,000 sq m factory site with warehouse at 67 Ludwigstrasse on the Seelberg hill in Cannstatt. This marks the end of his experiments in the garden house (now home to the Daimler Memorial) at his villa in Taubenheimstrasse.

  • Mannheim businessman Jakob Pfahler equips a boat with a Benz engine for the first time. A short time later, he acquires a boat builders’ facility in Berlin, where he begins designing and producing motorboats.

  • Gottlieb Daimler puts a miniature tram into operation at the Cannstatter Volksfest fair. The vehicle is powered by a single-cylinder Daimler engine and plies between Wilhelmsplatz and the Kursaal.

  • Gottlieb Daimler demonstrates his "Rems” motorboat on Lake Waldsee near Baden-Baden. By this time, three boats powered by Daimler engines had already been built. Following this successful demonstration, Daimler invites his guests to the train station, where he presents his motorised trolley-car – also driven by an air-cooled, high-speed single-cylinder engine.
