Wilhelm Maybach’s first four-cylinder engine is dispatched on its way to New York. The 6-litre power unit weighs 451 kg and produces 12.3 hp / 9 kW at 390 rpm. This is followed ten days later by the delivery of a 2.4-litre variant developed at the same time, which tips the scales at 153 kg and generates 5.9 hp / 4.3 kW at 620 rpm. Both units are designed for use in boats.

Notarial certification sets the official seal on the establishment of Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft (DMG) in Stuttgart. Max Duttenhofer and Wilhelm Lorenz make capital contributions of 200,000 Marks each to the new joint stock company. Gottlieb Daimler brings in his manufacturing facilities, patents and inventories.
