  • Gottlieb Daimler concludes an agreement with investors Max Duttenhofer and Wilhelm Lorenz to found Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft, "whose purpose is to exploit to the full and in all directions the petroleum and gas engine inventions of G. Daimler."

  • As part of his work on the design of motorised rail vehicles, Gottlieb Daimler files a patent for a "mechanism for braking and altering speed on gas and petroleum locomotives" (patent no. DRP 57 203, granted on 25 June 1891).

  • Wilhelm Maybach’s first four-cylinder engine is dispatched on its way to New York. The 6-litre power unit weighs 451 kg and produces 12.3 hp / 9 kW at 390 rpm. This is followed ten days later by the delivery of a 2.4-litre variant developed at the same time, which tips the scales at 153 kg and generates 5.9 hp / 4.3 kW at 620 rpm. Both units are designed for use in boats.

  • Notarial certification sets the official seal on the establishment of Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft (DMG) in Stuttgart. Max Duttenhofer and Wilhelm Lorenz make capital contributions of 200,000 Marks each to the new joint stock company. Gottlieb Daimler brings in his manufacturing facilities, patents and inventories.
