  • The "Maja", a car designed by Ferdinand Porsche, is presented initially in chassis form at the Vienna Motor Show. Production of the 28/32 hp car, the idea for which came from Emil Jellinek and was named after his second daughter, begins shortly afterwards at Österreichische Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft in Wiener Neustadt. However, with the "Maja" Jellinek is unable to match the sales success he achieved with the Mercedes. Another new vehicle unveiled in Vienna is the Mercédès Mixte bus with 45 hp / 33 kW petrol engine and electric wheel hub drive.

  • Wilhelm Maybach leaves Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft. He is succeeded as head of the design office and technical director by Paul Daimler.

  • The motorised test airship owned by the Prussian Airship Battalion sets out on its maiden flight. Powered by a 30 hp / 22 kW four-cylinder engine from Süddeutsche Automobilfabrik Gaggenau, the semi-rigid airship goes on to set a new air endurance record of 3 hours and 27 minutes on 23 July.

  • Edgar Ladenburg's Benz clinches victory in the overall classification of the third and last Herkomer Challenge, his second victory making him the outright winner of the Herkomer Trophy. Ladenburg's touring car is driven by Benz's racing manager, Fritz Erle, in the 1,819-km race through Saxony and southern Germany.

  • Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft presents a fire engine based on a 32/35 hp chassis at the German professional fire service association’s convention in Stuttgart. The vehicle was built at the Marienfelde plant and delivered to the Frankfurt am Main fire brigade shortly before the event. The vehicle is the first petrol-powered fire extinguishing pump to go into service with a professional fire brigade in Germany.
