  • Lissa Maschinenfabrik GmbH is set up in Untertürkheim to produce typewriters, and shortly afterwards renamed DMG Büromaschinenfabrik GmbH. The final decision to manufacture typewriters is not made until 27 November by the Board of Management of Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft.

  • The Board of Management of Benz & Cie. in Mannheim gives the go-ahead for series production of the OB 2 four-cylinder pre-chamber diesel engine. The first units are ready for use by the end of August. The OB 2 is the first series-produced diesel engine for commercial vehicles.

  • Ferdinand Porsche takes over as head of the design office at DMG as the successor to Paul Daimler, following the move of the long-standing technical manager to Horch on 1 January.

  • Benz-Sendling Motorpfluge GmbH presents the S 6 motorised plough with two-cylinder diesel engine at the Eastern Trade Fair in Königsberg (now Kaliningrad). One of the two exhibits is sold on 29 June for 165 million Marks – before inflation had even reached its peak.

  • In the ADAC Reichsfahrt race, Mercedes junior driver Rudolf Caracciola finishes top of three individual rankings and also heads the overall classification in the category for touring cars with a taxable horsepower rating up to 6 hp. It is his second competition at the wheel of a Mercedes.

  • Mercedes-Fahrradwerke GmbH in Berlin-Marienfelde, a subsidiary of Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft, begins producing bicycles under the Mercedes label. The first bicycles come onto the market in January 1924. The company ceases activity on 13 May after manufacturing some 27,000 bicycles.

  • Benz "tear-drop racing cars" enjoy notable success at the European Grand Prix in Monza, finishing in fourth and fifth positions. This is followed by numerous wins and placings in hillclimb and sports car races.

  • In Gaggenau, the first test drive takes place of a Benz 5-tonne truck fitted with the production version of the OB 2 pre-chamber diesel engine. The four-cylinder delivers an output of 50 hp / 37 kW at 1,000 rpm.

  • A Daimler test truck with diesel engine completes an untroubled drive from Berlin-Marienfelde to Untertürkheim and back with a 3.5-tonne payload – an impressive demonstration by DMG of the reliability of the new vehicle engine.

  • On account of rampant inflation, DMG is forced to issue its own money in order to make further financial transactions possible. Other companies as well as various public authorities also issue their own emergency currency during this period. The introduction of the Rentenmark on 20 November finally puts an end to inflation.
