Mercedes-Benz introduces new model designations for its commercial vehicles. The letter L (for Lastwagen = truck) or O (for omnibus) is followed by four digits which stand for the rated payload in kg. For example, the L 1 becomes the L 2000, the N 2 the O 4000, the L 5 the L 5000, and the N 56 the L 8500 or O 8500.
