A test series of 30 Volkswagen vehicles – the first not built in single-piece production – are completed at Daimler-Benz. Production of the so-called VW 30 series, designed by Dr Ferdinand Porsche and also known as the Porsche 60, was commissioned by the Reich Association of the German Automobile (RDA) in July 1936.

The Italian Grand Prix in Monza ends in a one-two finish for Mercedes-Benz. Rudolf Caracciola wins the race, with Hermann Lang coming in second, and becomes European champion for the second time. Caracciola also wins the Masaryk Grand Prix in Brno, Czechoslovakia, on 26 September, although this event does not count towards the European Championship.

Dr Wilhelm Kissel, long-standing employee of Benz & Cie. and a member of the Daimler-Benz Board of Management since 1926, is appointed Chairman of the Daimler-Benz AG Board of Management. Kissel had been chairing Board meetings since 1930 and with the introduction of the German Stock Corporation Act now formally becomes Chairman of the Board.
