  • With the consent of the Supervisory Board, the Board of Management of Daimler-Benz AG decides to increase the share capital to 75.22 million Reichsmarks (RM) by issuing new common shares with a par value of RM 25 million. The shares are entitled to dividends as of financial year 1942 and are offered to the holders of the old common shares at a subscription ratio of 1 for 2 and a price of 135 %. Subsequent to the capital increase the Supervisory Board elects to adjust the share capital by 20 % to RM 90.26 million.

  • The Annual Shareholders' Meeting authorises the Board of Management of Daimler-Benz AG to increase the share capital by up to 30 million Reichmarks with the consent of the Supervisory Board. The next capital increase takes place in May 1943.

  • The Reich Ministry of Aviation commissions Daimler-Benz to develop and manufacture aeroengines. In November a new plant is set up for this purpose in two former leather factories in Backnang, north of Stuttgart. In January 1943 the company concentrates engine development at this site.

  • In an official notice the Daimler-Benz Board of Management orders rapid implementation of the production changeover decreed by the Reich Minister for Armaments and War Production. The decree prohibits any peacetime development work and demands an increase in the productivity of truck production through further standardisation and concentration. The Mannheim plant is to produce the Opel "Blitz" instead of its own 3-tonne truck, and production in Gaggenau must concentrate on the L 4500.

  • On the instructions of Speer, the Minister for Armaments and war Production, Daimler-Benz AG signs a licensing agreement with Adam Opel AG for production of the 3-tonne Opel "Blitz" truck. Manufacture of the truck – given the internal designation L 701 – does not get underway in Mannheim until August 1944, however.

  • The Untertürkheim plant ceases production of the 170 V and 320 passenger car models. This marks the end of series production of cars at Daimler-Benz. However, by February 1944 another 50 vehicles still get built in single-unit production. With 93,033 units, including 19,075 "Kübelwagen" variants, the 170 V is by far the most widely built Mercedes-Benz car model.

  • In Peenemünde Daimler-Benz hands over a tail unit produced in Sindelfingen for the A 4 missile developed by Wernher von Braun. The 7.5 metre component with a diametre of 1.6 metres consists of a steel skeleton with high-temperature sheet steel panelling. Daimler-Benz is commissioned to supply a pilot series of 175 tail units. However, production does not begin until summer 1944.
