  • The 300 SE Coupé and Convertible (W 112) models are presented at the Geneva Motor Show. As with the 300 SE Saloon on which they are based, both are fitted with air suspension, automatic transmission and four disc brakes as standard.

  • The Unimog U 65 (406 series) is presented at the DLG exhibition in Munich. The new model is equipped with a 65 hp / 48 kW six-cylinder diesel engine and extends the Unimog model range in the tractor segment by a second, separate model series. Series production begins in April 1963.

  • The driver pairing Eugen Böhringer and Peter Lang wins the overall classification at the Acropolis Rally in Greece in a Mercedes-Benz 220 SE. In the Poland Rally from 2 - 6 August the two again achieve overall victory.

  • The Untertürkheim plant begins relocation of passenger-car component remanufacturing to a plant site at Brühl near Esslingen, leased from Württembergische Baumwollspinnerei und -Weberei. The move is completed in March 1963 and the Brühl facility becomes an autonomous branch of the Untertürkheim plant on 1 April.

  • The ladies’ team of Ewy Rosqvist and Ursula Wirth win the "Coupe des Dames" in a Mercedes-Benz 220 SE at the Thousand Lakes Rally, which takes them 2,000 km across Finland.

  • Eugen Böhringer and Hermann Eger in a Mercedes-Benz 220 SE are overall winners of the Liège - Sofia- Liège long-distance rally. This is the third win of the season for Böhringer, who rings out the 1962 racing year by winning the European Rally Championship.
