  • Description
At the International Motor Show for Trucks and Special-Purpose Vehicles in Cologne, Daimler-Benz unveils its new range of commercial vehicles, series production of which has meanwhile commenced. The diesel variant of the L 5 5-tonne truck fitted with the six-cylinder OM 5 engine has its premiere and is soon to become the world's first diesel truck from large-scale production. The development of the OM 5 engine had been given the green light following the decision by the Daimler-Benz community of interest to pursue the pre-chamber principle developed by Benz. A compressor-free diesel injection system using the injection pump produced by Bosch provides the only route to cost-effective large-scale production of high-speed vehicle diesel engines.
