Mercedes-Benz CLK 55 AMG, 208 model series Engineers from Mercedes-AMG GmbH equipped the coupé with high-tech at its finest. The AMG V8 engine with a displacement of 5.5 litres delivers 255 kW/347 hp at 5500 rpm. Starting at 3000 rpm, the eight-cylinder engine develops a torque of 510 Newton metres, which it keeps constant up to 4300 rpm. The CLK 55 AMG accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.4 seconds and covers the 1000-metre distance in 24.3 seconds. The engine electronics limit the top speed to 250 km/h.

Coupe and cabriolet of the successful Mercedes model series CLK start with further developed four-cylinder engines in the summer of 2000. From June this year, the new CLK 200 KOMPRESSOR and CLK 230 KOMPRESSOR will appear with modified engine and standard six-speed manual transmission at the Mercedes-Benz brand sales and distribution partners. The CLK 200 KOMPRESSOR provides the repentant 2,0-liter engine with mechanical charger, which Mercedes-Benz has recently also used in the SLK roadster and the new C-Class. The engine has 120kW/163 hp and is characterized by a powerful torque of 230 Newton meters from 2500rpm due to exemplary elasticity.
