Anti-lock braking system ready for production

  • Description
In Untertürkheim, Daimler-Benz AG presents the second-generation anti-lock braking system (ABS) to the press. The pioneering new system, co-developed with Bosch, is introduced in the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (116 series) saloons in December.
ABS tests on a wet road surface with two identical vehicles of the S-Class series W 116. The left-hand model without ABS slides into the obstacle during emergency braking due to the locking wheels despite fully turned steering. The right vehicle with ABS still remains steerable despite full braking. The driver can brake and steer around the obstacle at the same time.
