    In the presence of the German Chancellor Dr Angela Merkel and the Vice Mayor of the People’s Government Beijing, Gou Zhongwen, a letter of intent is signed between the Beiqi Foton Motor Co., Ltd. and Daimler AG relating to the formation of a 50:50 joint venture in China. Plans include the manufacture of medium and heavy-duty trucks as well as the exchange of technology.
