Second catalytic converter generation available

  • Date
    April 1985
  • Description
The Mercedes-Benz 230 E (124 series) is the first car model to feature as an optional extra an emission control system based on second-generation catalytic converter technology. In this case high-compression engines are used which run on premium unleaded petrol and feature a multifunctional mixture preparation and ignition system. In conjunction with the so-called catalyst retrofit version, this "MF" system also permits operation on regular-grade leaded fuel and retrofitting of a closed-loop catalytic converter.
