The motorsport career of this Frenchman from Voiron in the Isère département began in 1982 in karting, with three French championships won in six years. Bouchut then progressed via Formula Ford and Formula 3, where he became French champion in 1991, to enjoy factory driver status at Peugeot. In this position, he managed to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1993 in the Peugeot 905.

After further successes in endurance racing, he started for Team Persson Motorsport in the FIA GT Championship in 1998 and took fourth place in Dijon and Suzuka in the Mercedes-Benz CLK-LM together with Bernd Mayländer. In 1999, together with Nick Heidfeld and Peter Dumbreck, he started the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the number 5 Mercedes-Benz CLR racing sports car, but was unable to finish the race after his team-mate Dumbreck had an accident.

In the years that followed, Bochut secured numerous titles in GT racing and advanced to become one of the most successful drivers ever in sports car and prototype racing.
