Brasseur, born Claude Pierre Espinasse in Neuilly-sur-Seine/France, was one of the best-known personalities in French cinema and had been involved in more than 120 cinema and television productions since the 1950s. As a demanding hobby, so to speak, he regularly took part as a co-driver in the Paris-Dakar Rally between 1981 and 1986, a marathon stage that led across North and West Africa to the Senegalese capital and put both man and machine to the ultimate test.
in 1983, he was co-driver for racing icon Jacky Ickx. The Belgian-French duo secured victory after a distance of around 12,000 gruelling kilometres in a Mercedes-Benz 280 GE prepared at the factory.
