Born in Neunkirchen, Germany, Capito successfully competed in enduro and motocross races early in his career. The highlight of his active time was winning the truck classification of the Paris - Dakar Rally in January 1985 together with his father Karl Friedrich in a Mercedes-Benz Unimog U 1300 L.
After this success, he took on jobs at BMW, Porsche and Sauber, always in key positions. In 2003, he became head of Ford's rally programme and at the end of 2007 was promoted to series director for the US company's sporty production vehicles. Other positions in the motorsport management of various companies followed.
