Nanotechnology makes paint more durable

  • Date
    December 2003
  • Description
After four years in development, a new clear coat which is much more scratch-resistant than conventional paint owing to advanced nanotechnology finds use at Mercedes-Benz. The E-Class, S-Class, CL-Class, SL-Class, and SLK-Class models are the first cars in the world to benefit from this innovative paint, while other Mercedes-Benz model series will also feature the more scratch-resistant nanocoating from the spring of 2004.
Mercedes-Benz with a world premiere: the new nano-paint offered three times more scratch resistance and a better sheen. Models in the E-Class, model series 211 (the photo shows a Saloon body in the paintshop), S-Class, model series 220, CL-Class, model series 215, SL-Class, model series 230 and SLK-Class, model series 170 were the first cars in the world to feature this innovative paint finish. Other Mercedes-Benz model series received the more scratch-resistant nano-paint finish from spring 2004 onwards.
