Freightliner shows prototype with hybrid drive system

Freightliner presents the medium-duty trucks of its Business Class M2 106 as a prototype with hybrid drive at the Great American Trucking Show in Dallas, Texas/USA. The 187 kW / 254 hp Mercedes-Benz OM 906 six-cylinder diesel engine is combined with a 44 kW / 60 hp electric motor fed by lithium-ion batteries. The hybrid drive system also permits quiet, zero-emission operation of auxiliary units such as elevating platforms and pumps, without use of the internal combustion engine.
