Born in Glogau in Lower Silesia (now Glogów in Poland), Fritsch is a key figure in the young history of the car in many capacities. On the one hand, he took part in numerous racing events and won the Hamburg race in a Mercedes in 1904, for example. On the other hand, he rendered outstanding services to motorsport as a long-standing Vice President of the Automobile Club of Germany (AvD) and promoter of the Berlin AVUS. From 1926 to 1933, Fritsch also chaired the Supreme National Sports Commission for Automobile Sport in Germany (ONS) and was Vice President of the supreme international motorsport authority Association Internationale des Automobile Clubs Reconnus (AIACR), the predecessor of the later FIA.
