  • Description
The newly founded subsidiary Mercedes-Benz Motorenbau GmbH takes over the production facilities and workforce of Porsche-Diesel-Motorenbau GmbH in Friedrichshafen-Manzell. August sees production start-up of the first MB 833, 837 and 838 heavy-duty engine series relocated from Untertürkheim.
Mercedes-Benz large diesel engines OM 833 Aa (MB 833 Aa), OM 837 Ba (MB 837 Ba) and OM 838 Ca (MB 838 Ca) are designed according to the modular principle. They are 6-, 8- and 10-cylinder V-engines with maximum outputs of 300 to 750 hp at a maximum of 2200 rpm.
They are supplied as naturally aspirated engines or with mechanical turbocharging. The turbocharged engines have either a centrally located or two side-mounted supercharger fans. The small installation size of these new engines in relation to their horsepower is remarkable.
