  • Description
The Mercedes-Benz product range is expanded by six new diesel passenger cars with CDI direct injection engines. The market introduction of the C 200 CDI and E 220 CDI – both available as Saloon or Estate – and the E 200 CDI is joined by the launch of the A 170 CDI. This is followed in September by a second A-Class diesel model, the A 160 CDI.
In 1998 the special mounting location of the engine in the A-Class requires that the Mercedes-Benz A 170 CDI is fitted with a completely new four cylinder engine consistently featuring all modern achievements of diesel technology: electronically regulated Common Rail Direct Injection, turbochargers with charge-air cooling und four valve technology make the 90 hp front-wheel drive vehicle a fuel-efficient wonder, with an impressive fuel consumption of only 4.9 l/100 km and equally convincing smooth engine running.
