Mika Häkkinen claims victory in the McLaren-Mercedes MP4-13 at the Japanese Grand Prix in Suzuka, the final race of a season which has taken the excitement of Formula One to new levels, and in which the Finnish driver is crowned Formula One world champion. The West McLaren-Mercedes team takes the constructors’ title.

In 1998 and 1999, Mika Häkkinen won the Formula 1 World Drivers' Championship. Together with his teammate David Coulthard, the Finn also won the Constructors' World Championship for McLaren-Mercedes in the season of 1998.
