In March 1899, the "Semaine de Nice", a motorsport week consisting of several separately scored competitions, was organised for the first time. In the Nice - Magagnosc - Nice tour on 21 March, Wilhelm Bauer, works driver for Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft, was successful in the two-seater category in Jellinek's Daimler Phoenix car ahead of one of Baron Rothschild's two Phoenix cars. The second Rothschild car also won the four-seater category.
