First automobile race Paris - Rouen

21 out of 102 registered vehicles appeared at the start of this first automobile competition in the world, advertised in the Parisian "Petit Journal". 15 vehicles reached the finishing line 9 of those were fitted with Daimler engines, manufactured under licence.
A 20 hp steam car was the first to reach the finishing line, but was placed second by the jury as it did not comply with the competition requirements. The Peugeot and Panhard-Levassor automobiles arrived within minutes of each other. All of them were powered by 3.5 hp engines, manufactured under Daimler licence by Panhard-Levassor.
