After three days of heavy snowfall, the Chicago Times-Herald Contest, originally scheduled three and a half weeks earlier, finally took place on 28 November 1895 in a shortened form on the 80-kilometre Chicago - Evanston - Chicago route due to the difficult weather conditions. Of the 79 registered participants, only 8 turned up at the start and only two vehicles reached the finish - the same ones that had started at the Expo Run three and a half weeks earlier: Oscar Mueller took second place in his Benz after Frank Duryea, who arrived in Evanston after 8 hours and 23 minutes with a 30-minute lead.
