New model designations for trucks

New model designations are introduced for the entire Mercedes-Benz truck range in place of the design numbers used since 1954. The L 338 thus becomes the L 1418, the L 319 D becomes the L 405. The last two digits indicate the rounded engine output; the one or two digits preceding them stand for the permissible gross vehicle weight. Accordingly, the L 1418 is identifiable as a truck with approx. 180 hp / 132 kW and a gross weight of 14 tonnes.
