Type S: 1-2-3 win on Nürburgring

    The first outing for the Mercedes-Benz S in the inaugural race on the Nürburgring ends in a 1-2-3 victory, with Rudolf Caracciola taking the win. The S (for "Sport"), developed on the basis of the K model, is powered by a 6.8-litre engine developing output of 120 hp / 88 kW without supercharger and 180 hp / 132 kW with supercharger.
At the inaugural race on the Nürburgring on June 19, 1927, a Mercedes-Benz type K was also visible alongside the Mercedes-Benz type S factory cars.
The type K with the starting number 3 took third place and was driven by the private driver Rittmeister von Mosch.
