The honeycomb radiator was launched on September 20, 1900 (Patent no. DRP 122766) – an important precondition for further increases in the performance of vehicle engines. This innovation was based on the tubular radiator developed by Wilhelm Maybach in 1897.
Illustration showing the honeycomb radiator developed by Wilhelm Maybach, which was used for the first time on the Mercedes 35 HP. The improved performance compared to the preceding models was attributable in part to the particularly efficient honeycomb radiator. The radiator design shown here with a rounded top corresponds to the variant which was used as of 1903.
