DIRECT CONTROL ensured even more agile handling thanks to more direct steering, modified spring link bushings at the front axle, rebound buffer springs at the rear axle and a single-rod gearshift in the 6-speed manual transmission (standard equipment). The well-proven multi-link independent rear suspension was largely of aluminium. The four-link front suspension with suspension struts and gas-filled shock absorbers provided the ideal conditions for agility, safety and comfort, and AIRMATIC DC (Dual Control, semi-active air suspension) was available on request.
