It is equipped with an electro-luminescent membrane, which, when the sliding section is closed, can be activated by touching a button, emitting a pleasant diffuse light. By means of a potentiometer placed in the rear console, the rear passengers of the Maybach 62 can adapt the light intensity and the ambient lighting to any level, according to their individual wishes. The glass carries an intermediate layer, a liquid crystal film made of electrically conductive plastic. The crystals are arrayed with electric current, making the glass transparent. If the voltage is turned off, the liquid crystals lose their structure and the glass becomes opaque.
