Mercedes-Benz 300 SL (1952) with air brake - In training for the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1952, Mercedes competed for the first time with aerodynamic aids on the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL (W 194) racing sports car. The idea of this air brake came from Alfred Neubauer. However, the moral effect on the competition was greater than the actual one. Due to problems with the retaining pylons, however, the racing use of the apparatus was waived.
