The 416 series was produced from 1965, and was based on the 406 series. It differed from the 406, which had a wheelbase of 2380 mm, in having a longer wheelbase of either 2900 or 3400 mm. This allowed longer bodies and higher payloads. It remained in production until 1994, with a total production of 45,544 units in 21 model variants. 416-series chassis were also used as the base vehicle for special-purpose vehicles by other manufacturers.
