saloon, 210 series, 1999
In 1997 AMG presents the newly developed 5.5 litre, eight-cylinder engine with 260 kW/ 354 hp, three-valve technology and twin ignition. Initially the M 113 provides superb drive in the E 55 AMG, but within a short while the engine – with slightly altered performance parameters – also powers other AMG high-performance vehicles, such as the ML 55 AMG, SL 55 AMG, S 55 AMG, CL 55 AMG and the G 55 AMG. With 255 kW/347 hp and 510 Newton-meter of torque it even provides unparalleled dynamic handling at the highest level for the compact models C 55 AMG, CLK 55 AMG coupe and cabriolet as well as the SLK 55 AMG.
