Schiek, a native of Möglingen in Swabia, first made a name for himself on two wheels. In the 1950s, he won the German off-road motorbike championship three times on Maico. In 1960, he contested his first car event, the Rallye Solitude, in an NSU Prinz.

Working professionally in the Daimler-Benz sports department, he was soon driving Mercedes-Benz 220 SE and 300 SE cars in rally and touring car racing. His most important success was winning the 1961 Argentinian Grand Prix in a 220 SE alongside Walter Schock.

In 1965, Schiek and his co-driver Martin Braungart had a serious accident at the Tour d'Europe in Czechoslovakia. While Braungart only suffered minor injuries, help came too late for Schiek.
