This vehicle is world-famous and the Popemobile par excellence. It accompanied John Paul II on numerous trips to many countries. For his visit to Germany in late autumn 1980, Mercedes-Benz made the vehicle available to the leader of the Catholic Church for the first time - initially on loan. The vehicle is fitted with a platform, on which the Holy Father stands, and a bench for his escort. In 1982, an outwardly almost identical 230 GE follows. In 1983 and 1985, the equipment of the G-model was adapted to higher security requirements of the Vatican.
