Modifizierte Hinterradaufhängung der neuen S-Klasse - The modified rear suspension of the New S-Class emplays the proven diagonal swing axle design with semi-trailing arms, coil springs, telescopic shock absorbers and torison bar stabilizer, as has been used at Daimler-Benz for a number of years. 500 SE/SEL are additionally equipped with an anti-squat device, which counteracts the settling of the rear end during hard acceleration. To absorb more of the tyre roar on rough surfaces, the front rubber bearings of the axle sub-frame have been enlarged and re-adjusted. Models 380 SEL and 500 SEL are available with optional self-levelling hydropneumatic suspension.
