R-Class, Grand Sports Tourer/SUV - W/V 251, aerodynamics - Mercedes-Benz R-Class, model series 251, wind tunnel and cold weather tests were conducted at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Stuttgart-Untertürkheim/Germany and in Stuttgart-Vaihingen. Experienced aerodynamists track airflows, sometimes with the help of a smoke trace, to optimise the parameters for aerodynamic drag, lift and wind noise. The result was a CD value of 0.31. Reference vehicle: R 320 CDI 4MATIC, version with normal wheelbase, 2005 version, cubanite silver metallic (723). Special equipment: Bi-xenon headlamps including additional functions (Code 615), Sport Package (Code 952) with chrome trim, dark-tinted tail lights in sport look and 19-inch sports wheels in 5-spoke design, sliding/tilting sunroof with one-touch opening/closing and convenience closing (Code 414), PARKTRONIC (Code 220).
