Born in Kirchheim unter Teck, Glemser was one of the leading protagonists in German touring car racing from the 1960s onwards. The Swabian's career took off with a start at the hill climb in Schorndorf. Class victories in circuit and hillclimb races followed.

He drove for the then Daimler-Benz AG from 1963. Highlights were the overall victory at the Rally Poland of that year and second places at the Rally Germany (including a class win) and the Touring Grand Prix of Argentina, both with Martin Braungart as co-driver. The following year, he also contributed to the triple success of the Mercedes-Benz teams Böhringer/Kaiser, Glemser/Braungart and Rosqvist/Falk in 300 SE in the South American marathon.

After a brief episode as a Porsche works driver, he achieved a wealth of high-ranking successes for Ford from 1969 onwards, for example the European Touring Car Championship in 1971 and the German Racing Championship in 1973 and 1974.

After an accident as a result of a puncture in the touring car race in Macao, Glemser ended his career as a racing driver and subsequently worked as a consultant and manager for several car manufacturers and various racing series, and from 2010 also as a Brand Ambassador for Mercedes-Benz Classic.
