Born in Bonn, Margaritis, who has both Greek and German citizenship, drove a kart for the first time at the age of eleven, just for fun. Two years later, he started his first races in the kart team of a former mechanic of Michael Schumacher.

He made his debut in Formula racing in 2000, when he competed in Formula BMW. Margaritis' father founded his own team in 2001, and the son finished the season in sixth place overall. Margaritis junior then moved into the Formula 3 Euro Series via Formula Renault and achieved his best result in October 2003 at the Hockenheim round with a second place.

From 2005 onwards, Margaritis competed in the German Touring Car Masters and drove a pre-owned AMG-Mercedes C-Class DTM car for the Berlin-based Team Mücke Motorsport. In his debut year, he failed to score any championship points and moved to the Persson Motorsport team in 2006, where he finished 11th with 11 points, again in a pre-owned car, improving his overall rank in the final classification.

In the same team and once again at the wheel of a C-Class DTM from the previous year, he made a name for himself in the 2007 season when he finished fourth in both the Hockenheim and Barcelona rounds and worked his way up to 10th position in the final drivers' standings. In the following season, Margaritis turned to other challenges and found a new field of activity in the sport of GT cars.
